Economy:
The economic structure is chiefly characterized by small and mid-size businesses, although all three sectors of the economy are represented.
Based on the large amount of forest and the agricultural tradition, there are many self-employed persons and small businesses active in agriculture and forestry.
Almost all larger businesses of the economic area can be allocated to the secondary sector. Crafts have always been a factor of traditional significance. The metal producing and metal working industry and precision technology are also of high significance. In addition, sawmills and woodworking businesses of various sizes have also settled here. Finally, the successful construction industry must also be listed, where many small and mid-size companies are active in the areas of structural engineering, finishing and installation.
The service sector is the most labor-intensive sector of the East Belgian economic area. The transportation and logistics industry is also included in this, which is strongly represented in East Belgium due to its excellent traffic connections.
