Malmedy – Flower City 1996 – Paper City – Abbey

Economy:
Among the economic branches settled in Malmedy, one can find the traditional paper industry, metal working and processing, construction industry, automobile trade, retail and wholesale, services, nutritional industry, glass, stonework and earthworks. In Malmedy one can also find a successful retail, hotel and restaurant industry, and not just because of the international racetrack, the Francorchamps, crossing through its area.
At one time, Malmedy and St. Vith shared their history. Today, it is part of the French community in Belgium. Toward the end of the last century, based on its beginnings as an Abbey, this Walloon town became the center of tourism in East Belgium. The leather industry of old has made space for more modern activities in this growing economic location.
